Are You Rugby Emotional Intelligent?
The Emotional Intelligence Sports Inventory (ESi) is an innovation in measuring the psychological skills of athletes like rugby players. It represents a groundbreaking advancement in understanding the fundamental elements scientifically connected to elite sports performance.
Emotional intelligence contributes to developing a more well-rounded rugby player who is physically skilled and mentally resilient. This mental resilience enables players to effectively navigate the emotional and psychological challenges inherent in rugby's demanding environment. Such athletes are better equipped to handle pressure, maintain focus, and make strategic decisions on the pitch, ultimately enhancing their overall performance and ability to thrive in competitive situations.

Why Rugby Emotional Intelligence Helps?
Emotional intelligence contributes to a more well-rounded, mentally resilient athlete, capable of thriving in the demanding environment of rugby. Being emotionally intelligent can significantly enhance a rugby player's performance in several ways:
Emotional Regulation
It helps you manage stress and maintain composure under pressure, allowing you to perform consistently in high-stakes situations.
Self-Awareness
Understanding your emotions can help you better recognise your strengths and weaknesses, leading to more focused training and improvement.
Empathy and Team Dynamics
Emotional intelligence fosters better communication and understanding among teammates, enhancing teamwork and collaboration on the field.
Flexible
It equips you to bounce back from setbacks and maintain a positive mindset, which is crucial for overcoming challenges and staying motivated.
Decision Making
Being emotionally intelligent can help you be more rational and make strategic decisions during a game, as you are less likely to be swayed by emotions like frustration or anger.
Adaptability
Emotional intelligence can help you adapt to changing game dynamics and strategies, making you more versatile and responsive during play.

"In rugby, emotional intelligence is your secret weapon; it sharpens your focus, strengthens team bonds, and fuels your determination to excel, even in the face of adversity."
Mark Russell
What is the ESi?
The ESi is a concise and user-friendly assessment that can be completed online in 10 minutes. It generates a comprehensive report on an individual's sports performance potential, grounded in their Emotional Intelligence.
You can now measure how athletes use emotional intelligence when practising or competing. You heard me right - you can measure and develop an athlete's sporting emotional intelligence!
I'm one of a handful of certified mental skills coaches accredited to use the Emotional Intelligence Sports Inventory (ESi), the world's first assessment tool for measuring key performance competencies.
The assessment compares your performance against the world's top athletes. It provides practical strategies to help you maximise your potential and become a consistent, sustainable high performer.
The feedback on the ESi has been very positive. Many comments have come back, including ‘thought-provoking’, ‘stimulating’, and ‘outstanding’. We see the value of Emotional Intelligence in helping support the development of our great players and leaders.”
Stuart Lancaster
Former Head Coach, England Rugby Football Union
Who would benefit using the ESi?

Athletes are frequently distinguished not by their technical or cognitive skills but by their ability to apply their talents effectively under diverse pressures. With the ESi, sports coaches gain deeper insights into their athletes' emotional competencies, empowering them to unlock their full performance potential.
Mental Skills Coaching For Athletes That's Measurable!
The ESi Sports Report measures your key performance competencies and obtains a snapshot of your global emotional intelligence score and score on each competency.
It builds mental toughness so you remain self-motivated and sustain competitive energy.
When the athlete completes the assessment, scores are calculated, and a fully customised 18-page coaching report is produced, highlighting strengths and development areas across 10 performance competencies.
In addition to the results, the report provides suggestions and exercises for strengthening a given competency.
A personal Action Plan is also provided to help build the skills and resources necessary for responding to the challenges of sports competition.

ESi is used by Global Leaders in Sports
